Premise came into being very informally when I saw a post Clio Tilton made on Facebook.

She was looking for new viola repertoire and, potentially, for someone to write something for her. I got excited and contacted her right away. She wrote back within half an hour with an interesting addition to her request: the performance was only a week away!

This gave me just a few days to write the piece and get it to Clio with some time for her to learn it. Her only other request was that I compose something fun, "with a little sparkle". And thus Premise was born.

A few weeks after the performance, Clio recorded the piece, giving this project the fastest turnaround time from commission to recording I have personally ever experienced.
